TripAdvisor: Simply Stunning!
Recently returned from a wonderful 10 day trip to Bhutan. This is a very special place to visit with stunning scenery and the most lovely, welcoming and friendly people. If you love the outdoors, hiking, wildlife, botany, bird watching or just love to experience other cultures, this a great country to visit. There are a lot of options to explore for any age group, with your family or a like minded group of friends.
There is a good and interesting range of hotels, we went mid-range and they were all decent, clean and comfortable. We also did a short trek with a couple of nights camping. Horses to carry the gear and a cook to provide hot meal. All well organized and although the altitude was hard work we were well taken care of.
The climbs to mountain top monasteries and the views are just stunning. Bhutanese people are rightly proud of their country and we certainly felt honored guests.
Be aware that food is simple and good but there is not ‘a food culture’ as such.
Also it is good to be aware of the road improvement systems in place. There are road closures at certain times of the day on major passes and your guide/driver needs to plan accordingly. You could get caught and waste a lot of valuable tour time.
Our private tour was arranged really well by local agent Heavenly Bhutan and we would not hesitate to recommend them. Everything was well organized and all pre and post tour contact was great. We wish them well.
