Any tourist visiting Bhutan must follow the immigration norms and procedure for obtaining visa, permits and traveling inside the country. With the exception of visitors from India, Bangladesh and Maldives, all other visitors travelling to Bhutan must produce pre-approved visa. Indian, Bangladeshis and Maldivian nationals can obtain a permit at the port of entry on producing a valid passport. Rest of the tourists must obtain a visa clearance prior to travel to Bhutan. Immigration in Paro International Airport: All foreign tourists visiting Bhutan must submit valid colour passport to Heavenly Bhutan Travels (HBT) at the time of confirmation of your booking, same is used for processing your visa to Bhutan. The colour picture of the passport you send to HBT should be clear, visible and in high resolution. Passport along with the print copy or digital copy of your flight tickets and Bhutan visa clearance letter should be carried while travelling to Bhutan. On arrival after filling out the small form, your passport will be stamped.
Regional Tourists (Citizen of Bangladesh, Maldives & India)visiting Bhutan should have valid passport and service confirmation voucher from Heavenly Bhutan Travels (HBT). Upon showing and completing the entry formalities including filling up the form, your visa will be stamped on the passport.
Immigration in Phuentsholing, Land Entry into Bhutan
Regional Tourists (Citizen of Bangladesh, Maldives & India)visiting Bhutan should have valid passport, two passport size recent photograph and service confirmation voucher from Heavenly Bhutan Travels (HBT), must do individual bio-metric . Upon showing and completing the entry formalities including filling up the form, your visa will be stamped on the passport.
Rest of the nationals just need to carry passport, submit duly filled form and Bhutan visa clearance letter from HBT. Before your entry formalities, you must get exit stamps from Indian immigration
Online Permits for Regional Tourists
HBT will organize advance online permits for smooth entry without having to spent hours long in ques and possibly on any dates entry. Entry possible on weekends, during festivals and on public holidays too however following is the criteria for organizing online permits which we strictly follow .
-Customer must take package guided tours to Bhutan from Heavenly Bhutan (HBT)
-Must produce valid Passports – minimum 6 months from the departure day
-Must take approved hotels, HBT transport and guide
-Online permits are valid for traveling all over Bhutan without having to apply other permits from Thimphu
Important Information for Foreign Tourists, having Cross Border Tours within India & Bhutan
Indian e-visa holders (foreign tourists) are permitted only through one of the 28 designated airports or 5 sea ports of India. However, none of the land Port Authority of Indian (ICP) permits “first entry” for e-visa holders. Therefore we are requested by Indian Embassy not to entertain first entry on e-visa through any of the land ICP including Jaigaon land ICP, meaning if a foreign tourist visited Bhutan and has Indian e-visa for visiting India and wanted to exit from Phuntsholing (i.e land entry from Jaigaon) for entering India, his/her Indian e-visa won’t be accepted by the Indian Immigration. However, he/she can enter India (using Jaigaon land ICP) through normal visa i.e paper/physical visa issued by the Indian Embassies.
Immigration in Gelephu – Southern Bhutan
Entry & exit from Gelephu is not permitted for both international and regional tourists due to security reasons. For more recent updates, get in touch with HBT
Immigration in Samdrup Jongkhar – Eastern Bhutan
