HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation Bhutan – HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation is one of the most experienced and largest development organisations in Switzerland. It came into existence on 1 July 2011 with the merger of two organisations: Helvetas (founded 1955) and Intercooperation (founded 1982). HELVETAS is an international network of independent affiliate member organisations working in the field of development cooperation and emergency response. HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation is supported by over 100,000 members and sponsors as well as 12 regional groups of volunteers. Over 1200 local and 60 international employees (mainly Swiss) are engaged in 30 partner countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. In Bhutan, the Swiss engagement dates back to the 1950s and is founded on a personal relationship. Since 1975, most Swiss sponsored activities have been implemented through HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation Bhutan. HELVETAS Bhutan operates from a Programme Office in Thimphu to implement projects, engage in policy dialogue and provide advisory services. HELVETAS Bhutan focuses its activities on 3 Working Areas: Skills Development and Education, Rural Economy and Governance and Peace, with some activities in the areas of Water and Infrastructure and Environment and Climate Change. SNV Bhutan – SNV is an international not-for-profit development organisation. SNV is a development organisation, established in the Netherlands with capacity development as its core business. Starting out in the Netherlands more than 40 years ago, SNV now work in 38 of the poorest countries worldwide. SNV Bhutan has been active as a development partner in Bhutan since 1988. SNV is currently celebrating its Silver Jubilee in Bhutan.
Tarayana Foundation – Tarayana Foundation is a registered CSO, working to uplift and enhance the lives of vulnerable individuals and communities in Bhutan. Tarayana was established in 2003 by Her Majesty the Queen, Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, to help bridge local needs of disadvantaged remote communities with larger national initiatives. The Foundation works in remote, rural villages to bring about holistic community growth and development serving the needy communities. The Foundation serves to bridge the gaps between larger national initiatives and local grassroots requirements. It focuses on social mobilization, capacity building and empowerment processes wherein communities make the main decisions for change they want effected in their villages.
Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Established under the Royal command of the 4th King of Bhutan in 1980, BCCI is a non-profit organization, an apex body of the private sector in Bhutan. The General Body of the BCCI is the apex forum that comprises of business representatives from twenty Dzongkhags elected for the term of five years by the respective business members in each Dzongkhags and meets annually with the BCCI for Annual General Meeting (AGM). The BCCI visions to embark on developing private sector with organization’s slogan of “Towards Private Sector Development”
Loden Foundation –The Loden Foundation is a registered Civil Society Organization (CSO) in Bhutan to foster an enlightened and happy society through promotion of education, social entrepreneurship and Bhutan’s culture and traditions. It aims to help Bhutanese youth obtain education and learning at the preschool, school and post-school stages and to cultivate an enlightened ethos in the Bhutanese society at large. Loden Foundation is an entrepreneur support organization and one of it’s core programme area includes providing interest and collateral free loan up to Nu. 1.5 million to aspiring Bhutanese entrepreneurs. In addition various services such as mentoring, capacity building, networking and business expansion schemes are also rendered.
Loden strives to preserve and promote Bhutan’s culture and traditions through written heritage digitization and oral history documentation.
VAST Bhutan – Voluntary Artists Studio, Thimphu, popularly known as VAST was set up in 1998 by a group of professional artists as a not-for-profit organisation with the primary aim to provide opportunity to the Bhutanese youth to participate and develop their potential artistic talents especially in contemporary art, develop sense of social responsibilities through community services and also to explore art as a vocation. Its primary objective is to provide potential vocational skills and alternative positive use of free time and facilitate participation in the national and international art realm.
Bhutan Foundation – The Bhutan Foundation is the only nonprofit organization in the United States working solely for the benefit of Bhutan and the Bhutanese people and promoting a greater understanding between the two countries and beyond. The Bhutan Foundation serves the people of Bhutan in living and sharing the principle of Gross National Happiness. The mission of the Bhutan Foundation is to focus on enabling the people of Bhutan to reach their full potential by developing local capacity and facilitating global support.
Bhutan Center of Media and Democracy – Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy (BCMD) was established in 2008. The Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy was established to nurture and improve the standard of the existing media in the country which would eventually foster the culture of democracy. BCMD is one of the first registered Civil Society Organisations in Bhutan which works with a cross-section of society on issues that concern youth, environment, society, governance and education, using media as a modus operandi.
Pilou Animal Rescue & Care – Pilou Animal Rescue and Care is a non-profit organisation that sees the happiness of animals and the protection of nature as a whole as an important value in society and as a critical contributor to social harmony and Human happiness. Pilou is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in The Netherlands, the Pilou Animal Rescue and Care, supports the work in Bhutan and helped in making the animal rescue and care work more effective and efficient. Later a Civil Society Organization was established in Bhutan namely Bhutan Animal Rescue and Care (BARC).
