UNICEF’s work in Bhutan started in 1974 with support to the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation programme. Over time, our work has expanded to improve the lives of children, youth and women in other key programmatic areas. Together with all our partners, we work to ensure that all children have access to education, health care, sanitation, clean water, protection and other services necessary for their survival, growth and development.
Save the Children – Save the Children is the world’s largest independent organization for children. There are 29 national organizations working together to deliver programs in more than 120 countries around the world.We advocate for children issues and promote child rights. In Bhutan they work in close collaboration with the Royal Government of Bhutan to ensure that all children receive the benefit of the programs and their rights well protected.Save the Children’s vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation.
RENEW – RENEW (Respect, Educate, Nurture and Empower Women) founded by Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck, in 2004, is a CSOA dedicated to empowerment of women and girls in Bhutan, especially the victims and survivors of domestic and gender based violence. RENEW provides counseling services, the Community Based Support System, legal services and shelter homes services. Additionally RENEW has introduced Microfinance Project in 2012. The project is funded by the Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation (SBFIC), Germany, based on a MOU signed on 8th September 2011 and the project is extended till 31st March, 2019.
NCWC – The Royal Government of Bhutan established the National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC) in 2004 as the national machinery to take the lead in promoting and protecting the rights of women and children in the country. In 2008, given the rising number of issues and the Commission’s increasing responsibilities, the Commission was upgraded to a fully autonomous agency under the Royal Government of Bhutan.
BAOWE (Bhutan Association of Women Entrepreneur) – Bhutan Association of Women Entrepreneurs is a Non-Profit Organization registered under Bhutan CSO Act 2007 in April 2010 with the aim of reaching out to marginalized members of society mainly single mothers, unorganized sector and unemployed youth. BAOWE stands for a just and equitable society in which women recognize their strengths and become successful, empowered entrepreneurs leading meaningful lives as responsible and responsive citizens of Bhutan.
Bhutan Nuns Foundation – Bhutan Nuns Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2006. The foundation works diligently to improve the well-being and education of nuns in Bhutan and enable them to contribute to the cultural and spiritual values of the larger society.
